“grrrrr”
Ice Films, a specialist card.

Ice Films trace the history of water from its frozen form to its spontaneous release of liquid energy. Like a modernist composition, improvised and fluid, the camera tracks the ebb and flow of the water across a virgin surface, like skin, it comes into contact with the stable molecules of a table, for its first touch.

Representing inanimate life forms, the work comes alive with the passing of time and the intervention of the natural forces of sunlight, heat and gravity.

Simple chemistry captured in stop-motion film, a day condensed, 24 hours in the life of an ice sculpture and its many intervening life forms.

Ice Films are available on a commission basis and are filmed in a location of your choice. Contact David Osbaldestin for a quote, detailing the approximate size of the ice sculpture, the form you would like it to represent and where you would like to melt the sculpture.

A limited series of 5 documentary recordings on DVD's are made to accompany each Ice Film.

The commission fee includes the production of one recording.

Please allow up to 24 hour access to your chosen location for each 2 litres of ice. Access to electricity on site is mandatory.

David Osbaldestin lectures in the Department of Visual Communication, BIAD, UCE in Birmingham and IVE in Hong Kong. Specialising in graphic authorship, digital folk art and viral media, he is currently researching viral disemination of new art and freelances as an artist, designer, writer and educator.
